UA Group

Following a successful £52 million bid by Elphinstone Land Limited, UA Group plc ceased to be an AIM listed company and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Elphinstone Land Limited on the 17th January 2005.

UA Group, which was established in 1850, is Scotland's largest livestock auctioneer with markets in Perth, Stirling, Oban, Dalmally, Huntly, Thurso and Lairg.  The company also has a 30 % stake in Dingwall Highland Mart.

During 2006, UA Group sold its stake in Dingwall Highland Mart to focus its activities in the north on the newly upgraded facilities at Huntly.

Later in the year UA Group disposal of Bosomworth, its wholesale meat processing business in Paisley.

The auction mart in Thurso was closed during 2006 and the site was sold for residential development.

On 31st January 2007, UA Group sold its rural estate agency business Macdonald Fraser to CKD Galbraith, a leading firm of Scottish property consultants.

On 2nd February 2007, the livestock auction business was sold to the existing management team of David Leggat, Robin Tough and Neil McLean under an MBO.

Planning Consent for a new auction mart at Hill O Drip, Stirling was granted on 9th February 2007 at a full meeting of Stirling council.  Work is due to start on site early in 2008 with the new mart opening in Spring 2009.
