Ken Campbell is to take on a non-executive role for Elphinstone Holdings when he stands down as Group Director of the Glasgow-based property group next month.
With over 43 years of experience throughout the UK property market, Ken joined Elphinstone over eight years ago and has been a key figure in the huge expansion of the business.
His Elphinstone projects include the development and sale last year of the award-winning 300,000 sq ft City Park office development for £63.25million, which created 3,000 new jobs in the east end of Glasgow, and won six awards including BCO Regeneration Award; the 40 storey Elphinstone Place mixed use development; and the proposed £350million sustainable village development on the River Clyde next to SECC. He has also been closely involved in all aspects of the group's extensive land and property portfolio.
Development director, Steven McGarva will take on executive responsibility for commercial development at Elphinstone in Ken's place.
As one of Scotland's most innovative property players Ken has been proven to have a good eye for seeing opportunities where others don't, and a great ability to enrole others in ambitious and challenging developments. Today's Glasgow International Financial District started life over 20 years ago when Ken persuaded Glasgow & Oriental Developments to buy a core holding in the off centre location, and then worked with them to create the initial 500,000 sq ft development with tenants ranging from BT Regional HQ, Scottish Power, to Scottish Enterprise's HQ.
Starting as an apprentice with industrial specialists James Barr & Son, Campbell joined Jones Lang Wootton's first embryonic Scottish office and was with them for 23 years, including 15 as a Partner, expanding their agency and development team to running over 70% of the market.
Subsequently head-hunted by Knight Frank to head up and regenerate their Scottish commercial business, he then became one of 23 London Proprietary Partners responsible for driving the fifth largest global firm. During this time Ken was recognised by the industry as being one of the most impressive and influential Scottish commercial property players in the agency market, with involvement in over 3 million sq ft of office development as well as all other sectors of commercial and industrial property throughout the country.
Ken said, "I have had a fantastic career at all stages, and the move from general practice to Elphinstone fulfilled a goal in my career to work as a developer, and Elphinstone was my first choice. I look forward to working with Ken Ross and the Elphinstone team on a non-exec basis driving the business forward.
Ken will also work, as director and shareholder, with Andy Mason at Mason Dryden Murray in Edinburgh, a unique boutique business providing a kid glove asset management service for high and supra-high net worth clients throughout UK, Europe and North America.
I'll also be returning actively to my life long interest in traditional and Celtic music, and all the wonderfully outrageous people that come with it," he said.
