United Auctions to Unite Perth & Stirling Marts

On Tuesday 17th June 2008, United Auctions announced their plans to amalgamate Stirling and Perth livestock markets. The changeover will take place in a year's time when a new mart facility at Hill of Drip, near Stirling, is scheduled for completion.

Following the announcement Ken Ross, Chairman and Chief Executive of Elphinstone said:

"Now that United Auctions has made its decision and the land at Perth will become surplus, we are starting the formal planning processes for a mixed use redevelopment. We will liaise with Perth & Kinross Council and will start with a public consultation to find out what local people would like to see in the development. We would like it to make its mark on Perth and would expect it to sustain a substantial number of jobs."

He added, "The new mart at Stirling  fulfills a long-standing promise and is a substantial investment for the agricultural sector. It will provide an outstanding new facility for the farming community when it opens next year."
