Pete Selman, a Director at Elphinstone is delighted to have been involved in a ground breaking enterprise in education project, in which the dynamic regeneration of the River Clyde is turning the river into a unique education resource and classroom for thousands of pupils.
Pete's involvement was to lend his experience with major visitor attractions in Scotland to get the various Clyde Waterfront Regeneration projects to build into the national school curriculum, and contributed a developer's voice at a number of seminars at the beginning of the project.
The project involves a new website www.clydewaterfronteducation.com, a web based teacher resource geared to the Scottish national Curriculum for Excellence with specially prepared lesson plans linked to aspects of the river's development and complemented by the opportunity to bring it all to life with a Classroom on the Clyde boat trip on board the Kenilworth.
Created, developed, and funded by Clyde Waterfront, the strategic partnership responsible for co-ordinating and promoting the £5.6billion revival of the Clyde, the project was launched on Monday 16 June by Communities and Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell MP.
With 200 lesson plans already prepared and the floating classroom to be "launched" in 2009 - this is a superb initiative designed to leave a serious legacy to future generations of Clyde ambassadors.
