Chairman and Chief Executive

Kenneth Ross OBE has been Chairman and Chief Executive of Elphinstone Holdings Ltd, one of Scotland's most innovative and enterprising land and property groups, since 2005.  Elphinstone is a private company wholly-owned by directors and staff following a re-structure in January, 2007 when Ken released 37 per cent of the shares so that all employees with more than one year's service could become shareholders.

Elphinstone is the parent of several joint-venture and wholly-owned property development subsidiaries, wholly-owned by directors and staff.  In his role as the Chairman and Chief Executive, Ken has responsibilities for commercial and residential development, strategic land acquisitions, and master planning of developments in all parts of Scotland.   With the acquisition of the UA Group in 2005, he now has interests in the agricultural and livestock sectors throughout the country.

Elphinstone is active in the cities of Inverness, Perth, Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as in East Lothian, the Scottish Borders and Lanarkshire.

He is a member of the Executive Committee of SCDI, a Member of CBI in Scotland, and is Chairman of the Scottish Property Federation.  In December 2007, Ken was awarded an OBE for his services to the Construction Industry.

In 2006 he was appointed to serve on the Regeneration Board advising the Executive and Scottish Ministers on matters relating to regeneration in Scotland.  He is a member of the Climate Change Business Delivery Group and in 2007, he served on the Sullivan Committee advising Scottish Ministers on a Low Carbon Building Standards Strategy for Scotland.  He continues to work with the Scottish Government developing this strategy.  In 2008 he was invited to join the National Economic forum.

Ken graduated in 1970 and qualified as a surveyor in 1972. He was President of the Scottish House-Builders Association in 1987/88 and was a founding Director when Homes for Scotland was formed in 2001.  From then until 2007, he served on the Board, Executive Committee and chaired the Planning Policy Committee.

He is a past President of the Scottish House-Builders Association and a founding Director when Homes for Scotland was formed in 2001.  He served on the Board, Executive Committee and chaired the Planning Policy Committee for the industry for six years and was a member of the Scottish Construction Forum. 

Ken is a trustee of the Glasgow School Sports Foundation.  He is an Ambassador for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, a supporter of the Maggie's Centre and a sponsor of the Prince's Trust in Scotland.    He Chairs an international charitable trust and is involved in projects in the arts, social and educational sectors in the U.K. 

Ken has always had an interest in the arts and incorporates a percent for art in all projects.  In his limited free time, he enjoys travel, reading and fishing.
