Stirling Councillors Vote in Favour of New Mart

At the Development Management Panel on 19 April, Stirling Councillors recommended the proposed Stirling Agricultural Centre for approval. In an unusual step, they agreed to call a special meeting of the Council on Friday, 27 April to make a final decision before the election. Stirling Councillors voted by an overwhelming majority in favour of a new auction market at Hill of Drip in Stirling.

Neil McLean, Joint Managing Director at United Auctions said:

"This is an important decision and we're absolutely delighted."

"Stirling Councillors have clearly recognised the urgency and importance of the mart by calling a special meeting of the Council. All parties are to be commended for making every effort to retain our long-established business in the city and congratulated on their commitment to the agricultural heritage of Stirling. "

"It's almost the end of a long and difficult journey and we're looking forward to creating one of Europe's best marts. In the near future we want to press ahead with the new building, lock the doors on Kildean and hold our first sale at the new mart."

"We are delighted that all outstanding matters have been resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the Council and ourselves. We are particularly impressed that the Council will hold a special meeting to give their formal endorsement to the decision of today's panel."

"Our proposals require the approval of Scottish Ministers whom we hope will endorse this flagship development given its economic significance to the city of Stirling."
