Buccleuch Property and Elphinstone Estates have received conditional approval for their £135 million western and southern expansion of Newton St Boswells.
The development of 900 homes, on land around Whitehill Farm, could more than double the population of the Borders village.
Buccleuch and Elphinstone worked closely with the Scottish Borders Council to prepare the masterplan, which included an extensive community engagement exercise to promote and discuss the proposals.
The design has been strongly influenced by the existing character of Newtown St Boswells and other settlements within the Borders, whilst taking advantage of modern energy efficient materials and construction methods.
The masterplan is a flexible document which will review requirements for additional community facilities and services, including education provision, healthcare etc. at a later detailed planning stage.
The development will help meet strong local demand for a mix of good quality family homes as well as helping to sustain local shops, businesses and amenities.
